Behutet is the official publication of Thelesis Oasis, the Philadelphia-based branch of the Ordo Templi Orientis. For over 10 years, Behutet has served the Thelemic and Magickal communities by publishing articles and interviews covering topics usually ignored by other “occult” publications. |
 |
Behutet strives to be informative and topical without being stuffy or overbearing (check out the Tarot essays that discuss how the Death and Chariot Thoth tarot cards relate to professional hockey!)
Behutet #1 was published in 1996 by Frater A:.A:., who was then the Secretary of Thelesis Camp (now an Oasis). The original vision was to publish a magazine that allowed members of Camp to contribute articles and artwork so they could be seen by a wider audience. At that time, it was published yearly and every new issue tended to sell out very quickly.
In 1999, A:.A:. had become Camp Master and with issue #4 delegated editorship of Behutet to Frater Howard W. and Soror Amy Beth. Amy and Howard quickly decided two things: That Behutet would come out quarterly, on the Equinoxes and Solstices, and that every issue would be 36 pages. Seven years later, they have stuck to those two principles—no matter what.
After those first three issues, Behutet began taking submissions from people far and wide, whether they belonged to the OTO or not. The guiding principle remains “Publish what Thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.”
